Three Pennsylvania College of Technology students received scholarships for 2011-12 from the Pennsylvania Land Surveyors' Foundation. The foundation presented 10 scholarships totaling $17,000. Melissa D. Thorp, a Penn College surveying technology student from Curwensville, was ranked in first place among the recipients, garnering a $3,000 scholarship award.
About 50 children of Penn College students, employees and alumni attended Wednesday's "Trick-or-Treat Night at The Village," co-sponsored by the Alumni Relations and Residence Life offices.
The Information Technology Living-Learning Community in Dauphin Hall hosted a Wednesday program on virtualization, presented by Sandra Gorka, associate professor of computer science. Students installed the Linux operating system onto a virtual drive of their personal computers using Oracle's VirtualBox software.
Phi Mu Delta and PC Alliance co-sponsored "A Mile in Her Shoes," a benefit walk that combined fundraising with presentations about domestic abuse. Participants were encouraged to wear women's heels, an inch or higher, on their Tuesday afternoon stroll along Penn College's campus mall.

Students enjoyed a hauntingly happy Halloween Candy "Boo-fay" in Penn's Inn on Tuesday, a free event hosted by Dining Services. Students from Penn College's School of Hospitality celebrated the Williamsport Growers Market "Customer Appreciation Day" in typical hands-on fashion Saturday, carving pumpkins in a pre-Halloween competition and plating a variety of treats for hungry patrons at the downtown venue.
A new exhibit of photographs opened in the Bookmarks in the Madigan Library. The photographs are part of the student work completed for the Commercial Photography course taught by Gary R. DiPalma, assistant professor of graphic design,in the Spring 2011 semester. Photographs were taken in four basic subject areas: fashion/portrait, food, product and architecture.
More than 160 employers were on Pennsylvania College of Technology's main campus and at the Schneebeli Earth Science Center on Oct. 18, recruiting for nearly 1,900 full-time jobs, part-time positions and internships at the Career Fair. Greatly adding to the experience was the presence of blue-ribboned alumni, returning to Penn College on behalf of their postgraduate employers.
A group of students in Penn College's industrial and human factors design major found creative inspiration in the beautiful countryside at Rock Run this week. Students in the four-year major, offered through the college's School of Integrated Studies, focus on blending creativity, art and technology into product and system design.
