Douglas T. Byerly has been named director of athletics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, a special mission affiliate of The Pennsylvania State University. "Byerly joins Penn College with 22 years of athletic experience: first as an athletic director, coach and teacher at Line Mountain High School, and later in athletic development and admissions at Lock Haven University.

A book review by Vinay Bahl, associate professor of sociology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was recently published in the social-science journal Economic and Political Weekly. Bahl wrote a review of "Patriarchy" by V. Geetha (2007, Stree, Calcutta, India). The review was published in Economic and Political Weekly Vol. 43, No. 32, Aug. 9-Aug. 15, 2008.
On Tuesday, William P. "Scott" Welch and William F. Stepp faculty members at Penn College's Lumley Aviation Center in Montoursville received 45 minutes each of flight instruction in the Goodyear Blimp. The lessons were given in thanks because Welch allowed one of the blimp pilots to fly his helicopter. Both enjoyed the flight, said Thomas D.
Georgia R. Laudenslager, librarian, reference and outreach, at Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, has been selected for inclusion in the latest edition of Marquis "Who's Who of American Women." Laudenslager, an assistant professor, will be listed in the 2008-09 edition of the annual publication, which features the careers and credentials of America's most successful women.

A college alumnus and former administrator has been chosen as president of the Technical College of the Lowcountry, Beaufort, S.C. Thomas C. Leitzel earned an associate degree in business management at Williamsport Area Community College (a Penn College forerunner) in 1976.
Clifford P. Coppersmith has been named dean of integrated studies at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Coppersmith had been assistant dean of integrated studies-liberal arts. He assumed his new responsibilities Aug. 18.
