An assistant professor in Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Natural Resources Management recently completed two courses of field training and was named to the latest editions of several "Who's Who" publications.
Debra A. Buckman, assistant professor of environmental technology, has been certified by the Department of Homeland Security as a Master Trainer for Avian Influenza Response. She received her training through the department under the management of the AgPreparedness Responder training group.
Buckman also recently completed Train-the-Trainer instruction for hazardous-materials response. That training was provided by the Hazardous Materials Training and Research Institute through a grant from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, which is part of the National Institutes of Health.
In addition, she has been named to Marquis "Who's Who in the World;" to Marquis "Who's Who of American Women" and "Madison Who's Who of Executives and Professionals," both for the second year; and to "Cambridge Who's Who Among Executives, Professionals and Entrepreneurs," of which she is a lifetime member.
Buckman received a bachelor's degree in chemistry (with a minor in biology) from Mansfield University in 1972, obtained her secondary teaching certificate in chemistry and biology there the following year, and earned a master's degree in education with a chemistry emphasis from Arcadia University in 1977.
Prior to joining the Penn College faculty in 1995, she was a high school biology/chemistry/physics teacher in Philadelphia, a chemist and environmental-compliance officer for Litton Electron Devices, and an environmental engineer at Textron Lycoming.
