Pennsylvania College of Technology will hold a commencement ceremony Saturday, Aug. 6, for more than 230 students who have petitioned to graduate after the college's summer sessions. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Kenneth B. Kephart, of State College, has been selected as the student speaker for the ceremony.

During the waning days of summer Camp ESCAPE, four participants volunteered to read to youngsters at the Children's Learning Center. Campers also took part in a baking project and toured the facility, which recently was moved to the Hager Lifelong Education Center. The tour gave past Children's Learning Center students an opportunity to see the new surroundings and catch up with former teachers.

About two-dozen vehicles owned by Antique Automobile Association of America members were displayed in the College Avenue Labs parking lot Monday, one of seven stops along the group's "Vintage Tour" through northcentral Pennsylvania and the southern tier of New York state.

Girls entering ninth, 10th and 11th grades stayed on Pennsylvania College of Technology's main campus July 10-14 to participate in the annual SMART Girls residential activity. The girls participated in workshops on campus to enhance their knowledge of nontraditional careers – and the usefulness of science and mathematics courses in those potential professions.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Madigan Library, presents " Bodies Under Pressure," a collection of sculptures by Douglas Tausik, through Aug. 21. The gallery hosted a Meet the Artist Reception, with comments from Tausik, on Thursday evening. Through July 31, the gallery is open from 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Friday; and 1-4 p.m. Sunday. Regular hours resume Aug.

The Gallery at Penn College, on the third floor of Pennsylvania College of Technology's Madigan Library, will host "Bodies Under Pressure," a collection of sculptures by Douglas Tausik, from July 12 to Aug. 21. Tausik's sculptures are organic in form or, as the artist asserts, matter-of-fact representations of the invisible forces that affect a body as it undergoes transition.

The Gallery at Penn College will host the traveling exhibit "Intruding Umbrellas," by members of the Society for the Art of Imagination, from July 14 to Aug. 28 in The Madigan Library. The exhibit, which will be displayed in the library atrium, originated at the Zendai Museum of Modern Art in Shanghai as part of a citywide project.

Pennsylvania College of Technology's Outreach for K-12 Office was awarded a grant from the Central Pennsylvania Workforce Development Corp. to broaden the knowledge among students, teachers and parents about what is made in their back yards, and of the significant impact manufacturing continues to have on the region.
