Johnson Controls and its York-based Navy Systems business has bolstered welding education at Pennsylvania College of Technology by donating $30,000 worth of materials in the past year and a half. Recently, the company, a Corporate Tomorrow Maker partner of the college, boosted its support with a $10,000 gift toward curriculum enhancements and additional equipment and materials procurement.

Jonah G. Howe, public relations manager for Chief Oil & Gas LLC and a graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology, received an Alumnus of the Year Award at Thursday’s 21st annual Education Celebration hosted by the Williamsport/Lycoming Chamber of Commerce.

Welding alumna Erin M. Beaver, an intermediate manufacturing engineer for the Harley-Davidson Motor Co. in York, has been chosen as an "Emerging Leader" among the 130 recipients of this year's STEP Ahead Awards from The Manufacturing Institute. This is the 10th year for the peer-nominated awards, which honor women for their contributions and impact in both manufacturing and their communities.

Jacob W. Fry, who earned a bachelor’s degree in plastics and polymer engineering technology from Penn College in 2016, has been profiled as a “Rising Star” in Plastics News. The industry publication this week posted a Q&A with Fry, who is employed as a business development manager with Currier Plastics Inc. in Auburn, New York.

Boy Scouts from several Pennsylvania councils – and some from surrounding states – made their way to campus on Feb. 19 for Merit Badge College, during which they had their choice of 19 merit badge offerings. Expertise for the hands-on sessions – which ranged from two to six hours – was provided by Penn College faculty, who led the learning activities.

Eighteen aviation students at Pennsylvania College of Technology have earned wiring-inspection certificates from the Aircraft Electronics Association as part of the international organization’s training series.

A Pennsylvania College of Technology manufacturing student is one of four undergraduates nationwide to be awarded a “trades” scholarship. Alec D. Rees, of Centerport, New York, received a $2,500 scholarship from Rock the Trades, a workforce development initiative that raises awareness of careers in the skilled trades by celebrating the American industrial worker.

Seven students and two faculty members from Pennsylvania College of Technology recently attended World of Concrete 2022, the only annual international event dedicated to commercial concrete and masonry construction industries.
