A newly created scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology will honor the memory of a beloved and highly respected professor who died in 2005. The Lamont E. Butters Memorial Scholarship will provide a $250 annual award to a full-time student in Penn College's civil engineering technology or surveying technology majors.

The Master Teacher Award, the highest level of recognition given to a Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member, was presented Saturday to Jeffrey B. Weaver, assistant professor of electronics in the School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies at the college. Weaver received the award during commencement ceremonies at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport.

A leading engineering, architecture and surveying firm has established an endowed scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology as a memorial to one of the company's founding members. Representatives of Larson Design Group recently finalized the scholarship agreement, making a gift of $20,000 to establish the fund as a permanent source of scholarship awards. Matthew S. Clouser and Shaun R. Bentz, both civil engineering technology students at Pennsylvania College of Technology, have earned scholarships from American Infrastructure Inc., a Worcester-based heavy-construction firm. In addition to a bachelor's degree in civil engineering technology, Clouser, of RR 1 East Waterford, is pursuing an associate degree in surveying technology.

Pennsylvania College of Technology student Austin M. Upright has been awarded four separate scholarships for the 2005-06 academic year. Upright, Montoursville, plans to graduate in May 2006 with associate degrees in civil engineering technology and surveying technology. In May 2005, he earned an associate degree from Penn College in computer-aided drafting technology.

The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology has accredited Pennsylvania College of Technology's plastics and polymer engineering technology and surveying technology majors. ABET's Technology Accreditation Commission, responsible for engineering technology programs, performed the accreditation function.
