Word on Friday that Pennsylvania College of Technology has applied for exploratory status in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association was met with a sense of excitement. “(There were) a lot of great conversations following the (informational meeting with the coaches). I think they are ready for the jump to the next level,” Athletic Director Scott Kennell said.

Pennsylvania College of Technology will apply for exploratory status in Division III of the National Collegiate Athletic Association, college officials announced. The one-year exploratory classification provides institutions with an opportunity to learn more about the NCAA and Division III, which comprises more than 170,000 student-athletes at nearly 450 colleges and universities nationwide.

Pennsylvania College of Technology, in conjunction with the Penn State University Athletic Conference, has announced the recipients of the Fall 2012 All-Academic Team award. The award is given to student-athletes with a GPA of 3.0 or better in the semester of competition.

Following a near-monthlong semester break, three Pennsylvania College of Technology winter sports teams are scheduled to return to action Saturday. The women’s and men’s basketball teams host Penn State Greater Allegheny at 1 and 3 p.m., respectively, at Bardo Gymnasium while the wrestling team travels to Alfred (N.Y.) State for a 1 p.m. match with Alfred and 2:30 p.m.

Twenty-nine Pennsylvania College of Technology athletes have received special individual honors thus far during the 2012-13 school year. Through the fall sports seasons and the month of December, 17 Wildcats have received Athlete of the Week honors, as voted on by the college’s athletic staff. They are: Caitlyn Curley, Middletown, women’s volleyball, Aug.

Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams split as they closed out calendar year 2012 – the women winning and the men losing on Monday. Both teams now are idle until Jan. 12, when the wrestling squad also steps back into action.

As the fall semester was winding down, Pennsylvania College of Technology basketball teams both lost their nonconference games on Saturday. Men’s Basketball Penn College outscored host Berkeley (N.J.) College by nine points in the second half, but a 37-21 halftime deficit was too much to overcome as the Wildcats dropped a 67-60 decision and fell to 1-10 on the season.
