A German priest who miraculously survived a World War II concentration camp and escaped a death march will deliver a message of hope beyond suffering when he appears at Pennsylvania College of Technology in October. The Rev. Hermann Scheipers will speak from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday, Oct. 19, in the Klump Academic Center Auditorium.

A new student-housing complex is rising at Pennsylvania College of Technology, but even after that facility opens its doors in Fall 2010, more than half of the college's 6,500 students will continue to live in privately owned off-campus rental properties.

Pennsylvania College of Technology has earned a spot among the "Best Baccalaureate Colleges" in the North Region for the 2010 edition of America's Best Colleges by U.S. News Media Group. The annual rankings, which include more than 1,400 schools nationwide, were announced in the September issue of U.S. News & World Report, available on newsstands and online .

Few institutions would mark a 20th anniversary while planning for a centennial celebration just five years later, but Pennsylvania College of Technology plans to do just that. Twenty years ago, on July 1, 1989, the legislation that created Penn College was signed into law by Gov. Robert P. Casey.

A total of 23 teams comprising 154 people took part in Saturday's Walk-It-Out event, helping to raise $5,724 for the American Cancer Society. Food, games and camaraderie complemented the day's main activity, a mini-Relay for Life held on the Madigan Library Lawn.

The Pennsylvania College of Technology Colony of Sigma Nu Fraternity will sponsor a spring car show from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 2, on the college's main campus in Williamsport. The event will be held in the parking lot of the Carl Building Technologies Center; directional signs will route participants from the college's Maynard Street entrance.

The Student Government Association held a Silent Auction at Penn's Inn (CC, second floor) Wednesday. Open bidding was from noon-6 p.m. Light refreshments were served at 5 p.m.; winning bids were announced at 7 p.m. Auction items ranged from unique student work, other one-of-a-kind items, and services from organizations and small businesses in the surrounding community.

Brandon J. Close, of Williamsport, majoring in business administration: marketing concentration, has been chosen as February's Student of the Month by the Student Government Association at Pennsylvania College of Technology.

The Penn College Human Services Club and Empire Beauty School recently completed a benefit for Locks of Love, a nonprofit organization that fashions hairpieces for disadvantaged children suffering from long-term medical hair loss. The December event was a great success, with more than 20 ponytails donated. The Human Services Club thanks Empire for its donation of time, space and talent.

Twelve Penn College early childhood education students volunteered at Saturday's grand opening of the James V. Brown Library's Kathryn Siegel-Welch Children's Wing. They assisted children with crafts and making snacks, and also guided Dugout, the Little League mascot, as he visited with attendees.
