Timothy J. Mallery, director of residence life, has been recognized by the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce and Our Towns 2010 for "going the extra mile" in providing exceptional customer service. "Tim is not only the director, but he goes out of his way to see that the students are taken care of − if he has to do it himself," his nominator wrote. "Tim relates to the students very well.

Pennsylvania College of Technology presented "Distinguished Staff" and "Part-Time Teaching Excellence" awards Wednesday and honored retirees and the newest members of the college's "Quarter-Century Club." The Distinguished Staff Awards, now in their 10th year, recognize the contributions of Penn College's full-time employees, who are nominated for the honors by their peers.

The National Science Foundation has awarded Pennsylvania College of Technology and four other institutions a two-year grant of $499,950 to establish a National Center for Aircraft Technician Training in support of the aviation industry.

About 85 area high school students attended Wednesday's "Job for a Day," hosted by the plastics and polymer technology department. Students visited plastics laboratories, toured campus and made products on the college's mobile plastics lab. The lab, made up of smaller versions of Penn College's industry-standard equipment, traveled to several high schools this year.

For the third time, Monica J. Lanczak, instructor of food and hospitality management/culinary arts at Pennsylvania College of Technology, will be honored in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers." Lanczak's biography will appear in the ninth edition of the book, to be published in October. It also appeared in the 2002 and 2004 editions.

Two students from Pennsylvania College of Technology's School of Hospitality will be honored at a "Salute to Excellence" program in Chicago sponsored by a national trade association. Through a rigorous selection process, School of Hospitality faculty chose Tacy L. De Green, Bloomsburg, a sophomore in the baking and pastry arts major; and Jennifer R.

Baking and pastry arts students at Pennsylvania College of Technology displayed some of their final works before graduation during the Grand Pastry Buffet, held recently as part of the Penn College Foundation's fifth annual Scholarship Reception.

Ethan G. Smith of Lititz, who will graduate Saturday with a degree in collision repair technology, is the first recipient of the Penn College collision repair department's Orelli Award for student service-adviser excellence. The award is sponsored by Rusty Orelli and Orelli's Supply Co., 192 Locust St., Williamsport, the PPG paint and materials supplier for the department's paint lab.

This year, the Campus Center Quiet Lounge and TV Lounge underwent a few changes. With new furniture and new technology, the Quiet Lounge became the TV Lounge. In addition to the big-screen TV, students now can enjoy their favorite programs on two other TVs, including a flat-screen plasma TV and an LCD projection screen.
