Ellyn A. Lester, assistant dean of construction and architectural technologies for Pennsylvania College of Technology, was honored as a Construction Champion by Construction Dive, a leading industry publication. The annual list recognizes the most inspiring women leaders throughout the commercial construction industry. “Ellyn’s entire career has focused on talent: identifying it, leveraging it and nurturing it,” her nominator wrote.

The Dunham Children’s Learning Center celebrated the birthday of Dr. Seuss (March 2) and Read Across America Week (March 2-6) a tad early last week, due to Spring Break occurring this week. The colorful week of costumes and special book readers was a joyous time for children, parents and staff.

Three NCAA Regional wrestling medalists, three United East Volt Division all-conference basketball players, wins by the baseball and men’s lacrosse teams, and two top 10 archers. It was a very good week for Pennsylvania College of Technology athletics.

More than 75% of employers nationwide rate the job market for the Class of 2024 as “good to excellent.” Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Spring Career Fair confirmed that healthy prognosis, delivered by a National Association of Colleges and Employers survey. More than 430 companies, offering thousands of jobs and internships in a range of fields, met with 1,333 students throughout the Feb. 27-28 event, divided between the college’s Bardo Gymnasium and Field House.

Two Whiting-Turner Contracting Co. employees visited classes recently in architecture and heating, ventilation & air conditioning engineering technology to introduce students to career paths with the company’s virtual design & construction operations group. That team constructs buildings virtually before they are built physically, explained 2011 construction management alumnus Sean Scully, who is a project manager for Whiting-Turner, and Brandon Hurlburt, a VDC manager for the company.

Pennsylvania College of Technology graphic design alumni captured nine awards in AIGA Baltimore’s 2023 nationwide Flux Student Design Competition. The seven alumni who were honored created their designs during their senior year and graduated in 2023.

In her first three full seasons as the head coach, Angela Stackhouse has built the Pennsylvania College of Technology softball program into a United East Conference powerhouse. Penn College opens its season on Monday against Immaculata University at the Fast Pitch Dreams Classic in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Penn College's Diesel Performance Club and its 1959 B-61 Model Mack drag truck were revved up to return to Motorama, the annual motorsports extravaganza held Feb. 17-18 at the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex. The students enjoyed sharing their passion for Penn College and its diesel technology major with event attendees and showing off their treasured truck. With more than 5,000 participants and 50,000 motorsport spectators, there was plenty of networking to do.

WNEP-TV visited Penn College on Wednesday to produce a story for the ABC affiliate on the Spring Career Fair. Journalist Mackenzie Auker interviewed Loni N. Kline, senior vice president for college relations, employer representatives and students at the two-day event, which attracted more than 400 employers offering thousands of job and internship opportunities.
