Two Pennsylvania College of Technology auto body technology graduates are fine-tuning their skills with BMW of North America, Inc. Thomas Pardoe, Forksville, and Joshua Nyemscek, Emmaus, are enrolled in BMW's Service Technician Education Program. Each year, BMW only accepts eight students from North America for the training.
Erin B. Holbrook, Montrose, a Pennsylvania College of Technology student, designed the winning logo for the Williamsport-Lycoming Chamber of Commerce's upcoming technology exposition. Her logo for "techxpo.99" will be used in national Chamber publicity and on its Web page prior to the event, which is scheduled for Dec. 8 in Penn College's new Field House.
Michael Cieslak, Erie, who recently earned an associate degree in building construction technology from Pennsylvania College of Technology, received the "faculty choice" award for masonry. Donald L. Belles, acting dean of Penn College's School of Construction and Design Technologies, presented the award to Cieslak, who also received a toolkit from the Pennsylvania Concrete Masonry Association.
Dennis L. Correll has been named associate dean for institutional advancement at Pennsylvania College of Technology and executive director of the Penn College Foundation. His responsibilities include the solicitation of contributions for scholarships, instructional equipment and other institutional initiatives.
Electronics students at Pennsylvania College of Technology won the District 2 International Society for Measurement and Control Student Competition, held recently in Williamsburg, Va. The District 2 region covers the Eastern seaboard from Pennsylvania to the Carolinas.
Ford Motor Co. has recognized the caliber of Pennsylvania College of Technology's automotive technology education by sponsoring two $2,000 scholarships for students in the College's B.S. degree major in automotive technology management. The scholarships will be awarded for the 1999-2000 academic year. Ford has committed to two additional $2,000 scholarships for 2000-01.
A Pennsylvania College of Technology student and a veteran of the local hospitality field have been honored by the American Culinary Federation of Pennsylvania's West Branch Chapter. Christopher Douglas Timko, a baking and pastry arts student in Penn College's School of Hospitality, was named "Junior Member of the Year" for 1999.
Two culinary students from Pennsylvania College of Technology were honored at the National Restaurant Association's recent "Salute to Excellence Making a Difference" awards banquet in Chicago. Delegates from Penn College were Deborah E. Wyland, Wilkes-Barre, and Jason E. Blaski, Luzerne.
"One College Avenue," Pennsylvania College of Technology's quarterly magazine, has been recognized with an Award for Publication Excellence in a national competition among communications professionals. The publication joined APEX '99 winners selected by Communications Concepts, Inc., a trade group of marketing specialists, and was among the 631 entries in the Magazines and Journals category.
