Information Technology Services has issued announcements and reminders for May

The Instructional Technology Grant award committee is pleased to announce the recipients of this year's awards. According to Jennifer McLean, director of instructional technology and distance learning, this second year of the program brought a range of high-quality proposals for integrating technology in the classroom.

Pennsylvania College of Technology was host recently to the annual convention for the Middle Atlantic Conference of Human Services, organized by members of the college's human services faculty. The event carried the theme "EmPOWerment: People, Opportunities and Well-Being." It featured a keynote address by Monte Meier, a member of the U.S.

Nearly 30 guests took part in Thursday's "Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work" Day, which encouraged girls and boys to think now about how they can begin shaping their futures.

More than 100 children and guests, ranging in age from 6 months to over 60 years, gathered for the Children's Learning Center spring picnic at the Earth Science Center on Thursday evening. "We played games, had delicious food prepared by the College Hospitality Department, and generally enjoyed being outdoors together," said Karen Woland Payne, director of the learning center.

April is famous for its flowers and showers, but, this year, April brought a live-fire steam boiler to Penn College. The boiler, assembled on a trailer by the manufacturer Weil-McLain, sports unique see-through glass pipes and glass boiler panel.

PGA Tour member Bobby Clampett will be the visiting pro at the Pennsylvania College of Technology Foundation's 21st Annual Spring Golf Classic on May 7 at the Williamsport Country Club. Net proceeds from the event will benefit the Penn College Foundation Golf Classic Scholarship.

Already a contender for the 2008 U.S. Olympic boxing team, a forest technology major at Penn College has added "state champion" to his belt. On April 21, Anthony J. Tettis, of Ridgway, defeated Philadelphia's Paul Koon 2006 Pennsylvania champion during a fourth-round knockout in the state Golden Gloves Championship at Heinz Field in Pittsburgh.

Congratulations to the staff/faculty intramural volleyball team, which won 3-1 in the best-of-five series against a team of students Wednesday night. The staff/faculty team won the first two games (26-24 and 25-23), then in what some thought might be the turning point of the night the student team won the third game in impressive fashion (25-8).
