William Ma, a professor of mathematics at Pennsylvania College of Technology, was recently nominated by a former student for inclusion in "Who's Who Among America's Teachers and Educators." His biography will appear in the 11th edition of the book, which honors about 5 percent of the nation's teachers.
The Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board has awarded an $11,500 grant to Pennsylvania College of Technology to help the college prevent underage and high-risk alcohol use by students. The Penn College grant was among $700,000 in funds awarded to 65 organizations statewide. Since 1999, the PLCB has awarded grants totaling $3,032,220 to 210 entities.
On Sept. 29 and 30, Penn College's catering class will again provide food at the annual Gourmet Harvest Festival at Hunt Country Vineyards in Branchport, N.Y., on the western flank of Keuka Lake. The students will be accompanied by chefs Michael J. Ditchfield, the catering class instructor, and Monica J. Lanczak and Paul Mach, who will offer cooking demonstrations.
Alyssa Covas, of Pottsville, a graduate of Minersville Area High School, has been named Pennsylvania College of Technology's "Student-Athlete of the Week" for Sept. 16-22. Covas, a sophomore pre-nursing student, chose to postpone her entry into the military and remain at Penn College for an additional semester and it has paid dividends for the college women's volleyball team.
The Pennsylvania College of Technology golf team finished its regular-season matches Tuesday with a victory at the Links at Spring Church in Apollo. The team shot a total of 314, which was 21 strokes better than the closest competitor: Penn State New Kensington. The score allowed the golf team to secure first place in the Western Division of the PSU Athletic Conference.

Vinay Bahl, associate professor of sociology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, contributed a chapter in the recently published book "The Cultures of Economic Migration: International Perspectives." The book, which was published in September by Ashgate Publishing, London, was edited by Suman Gupta and Tope Omoniyi.
The older preschool classes at the Children's Learning Center recently celebrated Grandparents Day by inviting the grandparents to spend the morning with their grandchildren.
