College's Cisco Networking Academy Hosts Demonstration by Fluke Networks

Wednesday, September 26, 2007

On Tuesday afternoon, approximately 30 students from the Information Technology and Electronics & Computer Engineering Technology programs enjoyed a presentation by Harry Rundall, territory sales manager for Fluke Networks.

Hosted by the Penn College Cisco Networking Academy, the presentation focused on tools and technology used by network analysts to diagnose, monitor and optimize network performance. Following a discussion of the types of issues faced by network managers deploying new technologies, Rundall demonstrated using the OptiView Series III Integrated Network Analyzer in the discovery of network devices and the ability to "drill down" into a device to analyze the protocols being used and its capabilities. Also demonstrated was the AnalyzeAir Wi-Fi Spectrum Analyzer, which is used in performing site surveys before deploying wireless networks as well as monitoring and diagnosing wireless LAN issues such as radio frequency interference and unauthorized wireless access points.
