The Office of Residence Life announces the appointment of Kas A. Williams, who comes to Penn College with a bachelor's degree in criminal justice from Southeastern Louisiana University, as coordinator of residence life for College West Apartments.
The final week of this year's Summer Youth Adventure Camp began with artistic expression via "sidewalk chalk" and will continue with a variety of other fun activities. Pennsylvania College of Technology will hold a commencement ceremony on Saturday, Aug. 9, for the nearly 250 students who have petitioned to graduate from the college after the summer sessions. The ceremony will begin at 11 a.m. in the Community Arts Center, 220 W. Fourth St., Williamsport. Jasmine Elmore, of Jersey Shore, will be the student speaker for the ceremony.
Word has been received of the death of Kathryn Wentzel Lumley, a "board member emerita" for Pennsylvania College of Technology and a former chairman of the board of trustees for the college's immediate predecessor institution, Williamsport Area Community College. Lumley, 90, for whom the college's Lumley Aviation Center is named, died Saturday, July 19, at her home in Rauchtown.
For the first time, Penn College is hosting Pennsylvania Free Enterprise Week, a program that attracts highly motivated rising high school juniors. Students (accompanied briefly Sunday by their parents) will stay on campus through Aug. 2, enjoying a unique weeklong opportunity to explore the college's academic programs, cocurricular opportunities, multitude of support services and facilities.
On Thursday, 30 incoming Penn College students completed the five-week Summer PLUS 2008 program offered by Academic Support Services. In addition to taking a math, English or reading noncredit course, the students were involved in college-preparation activities such as Project Success, introduction-to-computers classes and library workshops.

The workshop, "Stitched Shibori on Pashmina Scarves," was held in the library and at the Bush Campus Center.
The Pennsylvania Department of Education has released significant revisions to the Career Education and Work Standards Toolkit, a Web site designed as a resource for the state's school districts as they implement the Pennsylvania Career Education and Work Standards. The site is maintained by the Outreach for K-12 Office at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
