Rather than disposing of books that have outlived their usefulness, The Gallery at Penn College and The Madigan Library invited students to upcycle old books into unique works of art for the second installation of “Old Books/New Lives: The Art of Upcycling.” The student showcase is being held in conjunction with the national juried exhibition, “Books Undone 2: The Art of Altered Books” in the gallery on the third floor of Penn College's library. The exhibits are on display through July 21.

Pennsylvania College of Technology formally dedicated the Jean McMahon Soars Center for Additive Manufacturing July 3 in the College Avenue Labs facility on main campus. The Soars family has supported Penn College and the Penn College Foundation in a multitude of ways over the years, including scholarships, summer learning experiences for middle school students via the My Tomorrow camp and more.

Seven secondary school teachers representing different regions of the state became students of STEM during a recent weeklong externship at Pennsylvania College of Technology. Supported by a PAsmart grant, STEM Careers Re-Imagined: An Industry and Education Collaborative, the program engaged educators in activities rooted in science, math and engineering and supplied them with resources for future classroom use.

The youngest members of the Penn College campus were enthusiastically greeted with waves and cheers as they participated in their annual Independence Day Parade on Tuesday. Marching, skipping and rolling along the campus mall, the beloved tradition of the Dunham Children’s Learning Center was enjoyed by participants and onlookers alike. Also boosting the red, white and blue procession was ideal summer weather.

Two recent workshops conducted by the renowned Plastics Innovation & Resource Center at Pennsylvania College of Technology delivered training to 23 professionals representing 15 companies, six states, Canada and Costa Rica. The five-day Injection Molding Processing Series offered a comprehensive examination of injection molding technology, and the two-day Extrusion Die Design Workshop introduced die design principles for all major extrusion processes.

An enrollment counselor in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Admissions Office has been honored by a statewide organization dedicated to the successful transition of students from high school to postsecondary education. The Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling presented the James McKeever Promising Professional Award to Sarah F. Marino, a Stroudsburg native, at its recent conference.

The Dunham Children's Learning Center at Penn College recently celebrated one of its favorite summer days: Mud Day! “Three of the most versatile and accessible play tools with many physical and cognitive benefits are mud, dirt and water,” offered Alicia C. Dobbs, a CLC childcare provider. “These three tools are already common materials in early childhood education and are tools to dive into (literally)."

The first week of Penn College’s My Tomorrow camp, guiding middle-school students in a wide range of career-related activities, was held June 24-28. The week successfully spotlighted careers in engineering, business, arts and health sciences. In addition to its focus on professional pathways, the popular offering engaged youngsters in a variety of interactive activities and friendship-forming fun.

WNEP-TV’s Mackenzie Aucker reported on the final day of STEM Careers Re-Imagined, a hands-on externship for secondary school teachers throughout the state. The recent weeklong camp at Penn College engaged the teachers in STEM activities that they can duplicate in their own classrooms this fall. Auker’s story focused on the mini-cars the teachers produced with 3D printers.

At a recent ceremony for graduating nursing students, Pennsylvania College of Technology presented DAISY Awards for Extraordinary Nursing to student Makenna J. Buck and faculty member Tushanna M. Habalar.
