A Pennsylvania College of Technology employee has a once-in-a-lifetime vacation planned for summer: umpiring at the Little League Baseball World Series. Zachary Gump, senior program manager of commercial buildings for the college’s Clean Energy Center, is one of 16 individuals from around the globe chosen to umpire for the first time at the 77th edition of the series, considered the world’s premier youth sporting event.
Seventeen students from six area school districts participated in the 2023-24 Penn College Youth Leadership Program, an initiative hosted annually by Pennsylvania College of Technology. As part of their engagement, the youth leaders experienced field trips to local community service agencies. At the recent Youth Leadership Graduation Dinner, each student was presented with a “certificate of graduation” for completing the program.
Several students in Penn College’s human services & restorative justice major provided volunteer support recently to the Union County Giving Closet. The Penn College team pitched in to bag clothing, toys, books and other items donated following the Common Threads Consignment Sale. The items will help the Union County Giving Closet support local families in need.
Pennsylvania College of Technology electrical students hit a collective home run this spring for Williamsport Area Little League. The 28 students enrolled in two sections of Construction Lab II-Commercial and their instructor, Darrin S. Morse, spent about five hours a week for nearly a month performing a range of electrical upgrades at the league’s baseball and softball complex in Old Lycoming Township.
Little League International has announced the appointment of Loni N. Kline to its Board of Directors. Kline serves as senior vice president for college relations at Pennsylvania College of Technology. The announcement offers details on Kline’s professional and personal endeavors, including being a young softball player, a volunteer pitching coach and “a lifelong champion of the spirit of youth sports.”
Pennsylvania College of Technology students helped 99 local taxpayers file their 2023 income tax returns. Their work resulted in $86,222 in federal income tax refunds for the clients, and state refunds of $4,397.
Blending history and modernity, a class of Pennsylvania College of Technology students has pitched in to assist a local historical museum in launching its new digital app that gives visitors an innovative way to engage with exhibits and essentially opens the museum doors for online exploration by anyone across the globe.
Sigma Pi and the Penn College Men’s Soccer Team have joined forces to host a clothing drive to benefit the American Rescue Workers in Williamsport. The drive runs through Friday, April 26. Donation bins are in six locations across campus: Davie Jane Gilmour Center, Klump Academic Center, Keystone Dining Room, CC Commons, Dauphin Hall and the Breuder Advanced Technology & Health Sciences Center.

The efforts of “crafty” Penn College students at a recent Wildcat Wednesday event will support a local social services organization devoted to family. During “Wildcat Wednesday: No-Sew Blankets,” several students crafted cozy, creative no-sew blankets earmarked for Dwell Orphan Care.
