Pennsylvania College of Technology's Society of Manufacturing Engineers student chapter recently toured two Pennsylvania companies the Benton Foundry on Oct. 12 and the Perryman Co. on Nov. 2. The Benton Foundry, located about 40 minutes away in Benton, mixes and pours its own compositions of iron and steel according to customer requirements.

A donation of hardware and software from Kepware Technologies will allow students at Pennsylvania College of Technology to be among the few in the country to gain experience on a system that enables the smooth exchange of data between various automated industrial devices and control applications.

A six-student team from Pennsylvania College of Technology recently tested its Mini Baja off-road vehicle against 140 other college and university teams at Rochester Institute of Technology.

A team of six Pennsylvania College of Technology students who have dedicated uncounted hours of free time to preparing their Mini Baja vehicle for competition will take it on the road to Rochester, N.Y., in early June. Stout has touched all three chapters of the institution's history as a student, a mentor and, now, as a benefactor. An internationally recognized manufacturing firm is supporting Pennsylvania College of Technology with a new scholarship fund. The Victaulic Manufacturing Professional Scholarship Fund will provide an annual award of $2,500 to a senior-level student in the manufacturing engineering technology bachelor-degree major at Penn College.

Seven members of the Pennsylvania College of Technology student chapter of the Society of Manufacturing Engineers participated in the 2006 Mini Baja Midwest competition which simulates real-world engineering-design projects and their related challenges and the group already is planning for the 2007 event.

Haas Automation Inc., of Oxnard, Calif., recently entrusted two pieces of equipment to Pennsylvania College of Technology, bringing its total to four since 2004. The company has provided the college with two pieces of CNC (computer numerical control) machine tools a TM1 toolroom mill and a TL1 toolroom lathe, along with the accessories to support the equipment for two years.

Pennsylvania College of Technology student Richard L. Carpenter has been awarded the Bracalente Manufacturing Scholarship for 2005-06. Carpenter, of Ulysses, is pursuing an associate degree in toolmaking technology and has been named to the dean's list at Penn College several times.
