Practice continues and season openers loom for Pennsylvania College of Technology fall sports athletes as the Wildcats will compete as full-fledged members of NCAA Division III for the first time. Scheduled to open in non-North Eastern Athletic Conference play on Friday, Sept. 1: Men’s soccer at Geneva College, 6 p.m. Women’s soccer hosting King’s College, 7 p.m.

The Penn College Wildcat baseball team's handling of the field tarp for Sunday's nationally televised MLB Little League Classic is featured in a report on Philadelphia's WHYY-FM public radio station. Coach Chris Howard and his team were recruited for field duty for the major league game between the Pittsburgh Pirates and St. Louis Cardinals, played in BB&T Ballpark at Historic Bowman Field.

When the St. Louis Cardinals and Pittsburgh Pirates square off Aug. 20 in the MLB Little League Classic, there will be a few familiar faces at the nationally televised event. Approximately 20 Penn College baseball players and head coach Chris Howard will be responsible for the field tarp in case of inclement weather at the ESPN Sunday Night Baseball game.

To commemorate Penn College's move to NCAA Division III membership, the historic floor of Bardo Gymnasium received a facelift this summer. Pennsylvania College of Technology graduate Christopher C. Rutledge, a collegiate soccer player and all-around sports enthusiast, chose his degree without imagining that it would lead to work that so closely relates to his lifelong pastime, let alone that his first full-time job would be with his favorite NFL team.

Pennsylvania College of Technology President Davie Jane Gilmour has been appointed vice chair of President’s Council for the North Eastern Athletic Conference. A dozen of Penn College’s athletic teams compete in the NEAC, and Gilmour’s work with the council has included service on its committees for strategic planning and sportsmanship.

Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Wildcat Athletics teams will compete as full members of NCAA Division III when students return this fall. The NCAA Division III Management Council notified Penn College on Thursday that it has successfully completed the provisional membership process.

In its 15th season under coach Chad Karstetter, the Wildcats competed last weekend at the season-ending outdoor national championships in Chula Vista, California, where the men's bowhunter team placed first, one archer earned All-American honors and the team ended eighth in the country for the second year in a row.

A new day looms on the horizon for Pennsylvania College of Technology and it comes as a result of decades of persistence, patience and effort by those who have participated in and supported Wildcat athletics.
