Laura A. Snyder, of Harrisburg, a May graduate of Pennsylvania College of Technology’s landscape/plant production technology major, has attained Pennsylvania Certified Horticulturist status after passing the formal exam required for certification. The PCH exam was administered on the last day of finals in early May by Carl J. Bower Jr., assistant professor of horticulture at Penn College. Snyder passed all four sections of the intensive test.
As part of the spring semester’s finale events, Penn College hosted an Excellence in Student Leadership and Service Awards Ceremony to honor 11 graduating students who distinguished themselves by their high academic achievement, quality leadership and exemplary service.
Pennsylvania College of Technology students reaped the benefits of their hands-on education and tireless dedication by finishing fourth out of 89 cars in the Baja SAE Williamsport endurance race, the international competition’s premier event. Overall, the team placed 10th out of the 102 teams competing. Those teams consisted of about 1,800 students representing colleges and universities from throughout the United States, Canada and Brazil.
The exhilarating world of off-road racing captivated competitors and fans at Baja SAE Williamsport, hosted by Pennsylvania College of Technology May 16-19. Attracting 102 collegiate engineering teams from across the U.S., Canada and Brazil, the event concluded Sunday afternoon with an awards ceremony following the competition’s signature event, the four-hour endurance race. Penn College's team finished an impressive fourth in the final contest and 10th overall.

The Community Arts Center spotlight shone brightly on graduates as they walked across the stage during Penn College's three commencement ceremonies, held May 10-11 at the historic theater in downtown Williamsport. More than 600 graduates chose to enjoy their moment in the sun (despite some rain) and shared the occasion with family and friends, many of whom cheered loudly and wept quietly, celebrating the newest Penn College alumni. Pennsylvania College of Technology conducted three commencement ceremonies on May 10-11 for about 725 students who completed academic requirements during the Spring 2024 semester. Here is a quick sprint through the ceremonies. (Sprints were many as graduates and guests dodged raindrops both days but enjoyed interludes of sunshine and overflowing pride and joy.) Pennsylvania College of Technology presented honors to four alumni during Spring 2024 commencement ceremonies, held May 10-11 at the Community Arts Center in downtown Williamsport. Kate McCall Stepnick, of Bloomsburg, received the Alumni Humanitarian Award; Daniel T. Hornberger, of Seven Valleys, and Richard C. Hornberger, of Mechanicsburg, were recognized with Distinguished Alumni Awards; and Corey A. Sarver, of Sykesville, Maryland, accepted the Alumni Mentorship Award.
Representatives from Metzger McGuire, a leader in interior industrial concrete repair products, provided live concrete repair demonstrations to students in the Concrete Construction class. The company’s Pat Smith and Dan Kraff gave students hands-on practice using Metzger McGuire’s products to repair surface damage and damaged joints – and donated materials to the concrete science program.
