Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member Chip D. Baumgardner recently attended an Innovation Engineering Summit at Eureka! Ranch, an innovation think tank and training company. Baumgardner, an associate professor of business administration/management, was among 30 guests invited to the summit.

When Blaine L. Walizer crossed the stage at Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Dec. 16 commencement ceremony, it marked the second degree he earned in a matter of weeks. From Penn College, the Beech Creek resident completed an associate degree in business management. In early November, he accepted the American FFA Degree at the Future Farmers of America National Convention.

On Wednesday, Penn College hosted Step 2 of the Pennsylvania Council on Financial Literacy’s “Dream Learn Pitch” competition for K-12 students. “The goal today is we’re helping all the students develop their business plan,” said Eric Attinger, chief communications officer for Penn CFL.

Prompted by a Penn College News story posted earlier in the week, WNEP's Chris Keating virtually interviewed two alumni dealing with the aftermath of the devastating wildfires on Maui: Kristen (Fortney) Patterson, who earned degrees in business administration: management concentration (2009) and legal assistant-paralegal (2014); and Matthew S. Francis, a 1998 accounting graduate.

The deadliest wildfire in the U.S. since 1918 torched Hawaii’s Maui island last month and touched the lives of two Pennsylvania College of Technology alumni. Both continue to cope with the tragedy that destroyed their hometown of Lahaina, killed numerous neighbors and harshly transformed their ideal definition of paradise.

Long-standing Pennsylvania College of Technology partner Chesapeake Energy has increased its support of students by establishing an endowed scholarship at the college. Awards from the scholarship will begin during the 2023-24 academic year. The Chesapeake Energy Endowed Scholarship may be used by students to defray the costs of tuition, fees, books, tools, required instructional supplies and any other eligible education expenses.

A memorial service will be Saturday for Ray F. Tyler, a retired member of the Williamsport Area Community College and Pennsylvania College of Technology business faculty, who died July 18 at the age of 93.

Through an on-campus Volunteer Income Tax Assistance site, students in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s accounting major and business administration: banking & finance major helped members of the Greater Williamsport community to file 98 2022 income tax returns, with a total of $103,562 in federal tax refunds and $4,597 in state tax refunds.

Pennsylvania College of Technology presented Anthony J. Peachey with the Alumni Volunteer of the Year Award at its Fall 2022 Commencement ceremonies, held Dec. 17 at the Community Arts Center. Peachey earned a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration: marketing concentration from Penn College in 2009, graduating summa cum laude.
