Pennsylvania College of Technology's Board of Directors has approved a $53.6 million operating budget for 2000-01 that includes an additional state appropriation of $2 million to enhance the College's workforce-development initiatives. The operating budget includes a total state appropriation of $14,672,000 − up $2,306,000 (18.6 percent) from 1999-2000.

A direct-injection turbocharged diesel engine valued at $5,500 has been donated to Pennsylvania College of Technology by VFIS Claims Management Inc. of York. The 7.3-liter 1999 engine will be used for instructional purposes in the Automotive Technology/Ford ASSET program, according to Colin W. Williamson, dean of the School of Transportation Technology at Penn College.

Matthew W. Sharpless, a Forest Technology student who received his associate of applied science degree from Pennsylvania College of Technology in May, has won the Bailey/Brunton Award for Outstanding Achievement. For winning the honor, Sharpless, of Huntingdon, receives a Brunton Pocket Transit (with a retail value of $289) and a commemorative plaque.

A scholarship fund for students in any major has been established at Pennsylvania College of Technology by the volunteer faculty, staff and students who coordinate the Scholarship Ride, an annual event open to all motorcycle enthusiasts. The Penn College Motorcycle Ride Scholarship Fund is the net result of the $4,266 raised in this year's ride to establish an endowed account.

Tioga County residents attending Pennsylvania College of Technology will be eligible to receive one of 20 $1,000 scholarships to be awarded in the 2000-01 academic year from the Horace B. Packer Foundation Scholarship fund.

The first students to graduate as a group from a Distance Learning degree-completion program at Pennsylvania College of Technology were awarded their bachelor's degrees in Dental Hygiene recently in ceremonies held in Bryn Mawr.

All 23 Class of 1999 graduates in the Occupational Therapy Assistant major at Pennsylvania College of Technology who took the national certification exam in March have passed, marking the 11th consecutive time that students in the associate's-degree program registered a 100-percent pass rate.
