OSRAM Sylvania's Wellsboro plant will fund a $1,500 scholarship at Pennsylvania College of Technology for the 2000-01 academic year.
The OSRAM Sylvania-Wellsboro Plant Scholarship may be awarded annually, pending continued support from the company.
OSRAM Sylvania has been supportive of education for its employees, and Wellsboro Plant Manager Robert Alspaugh has been an advocate for improved educational standards and scientific/technical education for all students, expressing his opinions through such groups as the Wellsboro Area School District Tech Prep Review Committee, Growth Resources of Wellsboro and others.
Alspaugh said the region is fortunate to have Penn College's main campus and the North Campus in its back yard, offering opportunities for students to receive state-of-the-art training and technical education.
To be eligible for the OSRAM Sylvania Wellsboro Plant Scholarship, a student must be enrolled at Penn College in at least six credits in the School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies, the School of Construction and Design Technologies or the School of Business and Computer Technologies. The student also must have applied and be eligible for financial aid and meet certain high school and college-grade requirements.
First preference will be shown to full-time employees of OSRAM Sylvania's Wellsboro plant. Dependents of the plant's employees will receive second preference, followed by residents of Tioga County.
