Last year, the Pennsylvania College of Technology bowling team got an unexpected lift from its men, who claimed two state titles. This year, good things are expected, but coach Lisa Worth is reminding her keglers not to get too overconfident.

Visiting Chef Walter Staib spent time with students on campus Feb. 23-25, during which they prepared an elegant Visiting Chef Dinner that was served on Saturday. Staib owns City Tavern in Philadelphia, a reconstructed version of the tavern in which members of the First Continental Congress met informally. Funds from the dinner are used to support scholarships.

The second annual "Catch Me If You Can" Allyson Wilgar-Jones Memorial 5K Walk/Run is scheduled for April 8 on the campus of Pennsylvania College of Technology. The race is organized by nursing faculty at Penn College in honor of Wilgar-Jones, a colleague who died in 2004 after a brief battle with cancer.

Beck, training/quality assurance consultant (and alumnus) visited the School of Transportation Technology last week with a corporate contribution of vehicle parts for use by collision repair students. Anticipation and excitement abound for the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team this spring. The Wildcats are coming off a great fall season, during which they went 13-5 overall and 11-1 in the Penn State University Athletic Conference, and, before they resume their PSUAC schedule in late March, they have nearly a dozen nonleague games scheduled nine of them in Florida.

A fire at 633 W. Fourth St. in Williamsport (Victorian Village) on Sunday morning displaced 14 Penn College students, according to the owner of the facility. None of the students was injured in the blaze. Those students who need it will be offered temporary housing on campus. The college will also help replace books and academic supplies and provide other assistance to the students.

Information Technology Services reminds the college community to be alert for e-mail scams. A recent scam, just in time for tax season, appears to come from the Internal Revenue Service. The message indicates that the recipient is eligible for a tax refund and provides a link to a refund-request form.

Pennsylvania College of Technology bowlers had some unexpected results in the Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference tournament Feb. 15. A team expected to excel didn't and one not expected to did.
