The August 2024 issue of Avionics News features an article on Pennsylvania College of Technology alumna Alicia “Marti” Martinez, who earned her Bachelor of Science in aviation maintenance technology on Aug. 3.
Titled “Taking an Active Role in Learning,” the profile was written by retired aviation faculty member Thomas D. Inman (who continues to work in a part-time and substitute capacity).
An Air Force veteran, Martinez “thrives on challenges,” Inman points out, while also addressing her “natural leadership abilities and her positive assertiveness.”
The article showcases Martinez’s enthusiasm for her academics and extracurricular activities and how she turned all that effort into positive outcomes for herself (numerous scholarships, internships and training opportunities) and for others (volunteer efforts benefiting veterans and fellow students).
Describing her as the ultimate example of a driven college student, Inman writes: “She was a leader in her classes, and soon, she will be a leader in the aviation industry.”
Martinez is currently attending the Airbus Helicopters’ North American Training Academy in Grand Prairie, Texas, thanks to a Bill Sanderson Aviation Maintenance Technology Scholarship from Helicopter Association International’s Technical Working Group. She was one of seven selected worldwide to receive that scholarship.
In October, Martinez will attend the Leonardo Helicopters Training Academy in Philadelphia, supported by the Leonardo Helicopters AW139 Full Airframe Maintenance Course Scholarship through a Whirly-Girls International Scholarship.
Prior to attaining her bachelor's degree, the Allentown resident earned a Penn College associate degree in aviation technology in 2023.
Avionics News magazine, a monthly publication of the Aircraft Electronics Association, is touted as "the voice of the general aviation electronics industry." First published in 1963, it is "the largest, single representation of approved maintenance organizations in the world."
