The annual award is given to a secondary or postsecondary member of PACAC who is in the early stages of their career.

An enrollment counselor in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Admissions Office has been honored by a statewide organization dedicated to the successful transition of students from high school to postsecondary education.

The Pennsylvania Association for College Admission Counseling presented the James McKeever Promising Professional Award to Sarah F. Marino, a Stroudsburg native, at its recent conference. The honor is bestowed annually to a secondary or postsecondary member of PACAC who is in the early stages of their career.  Nominees must have demonstrated both outstanding job performance and meaningful professional services beyond their institutions.

“Sarah is most deserving of this award, and I am so proud she’s being recognized by our state association in this way,” said Audriana L. Empet, director of admissions at Penn College. “She’s already made such an impact, and I can’t wait to see how else she enhances our profession.”

Chris Bard, a school counselor at Berks Career and Technology Center West Campus, nominated Marino for the award.

Earlier this year, the National Association for College Admission Counseling selected Marino for its NEXT program, a one-year program for early- to mid-career professionals.

A 2022 graduate of Susquehanna University, Marino earned a dual Bachelor of Arts degree in English: publishing and editing and communication arts: communication studies. She is pursuing a master’s degree in educational leadership and policy analysis, with an emphasis in higher education, from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

In her role as an enrollment counselor, Marino works with accepted students whose majors are in the Transportation and Diesel Technology & Natural Resources divisions within the School of Engineering Technologies.
