Stabler Foundation scholarship support reaches $2.25 million
Thursday, January 24, 2019
A $720,000 gift from The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation of Harrisburg will help selected students in several categories achieve their educational goals at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Combined with several previous gifts from the foundation, the Stabler Scholarship Endowment Fund at Penn College now totals $2.25 million in scholarship support for qualified students enrolled full time at Penn College.
The latest gift from the Stabler Foundation will allow Penn College to offer first-year scholarship support of $5,000 each for up to an additional six students. Penn College has established criteria for students to be eligible for the scholarship. Students must either be enrolled in Associate of Applied Science degree programs that are nontraditional for their gender, transferring to Penn College from other schools, or matriculating to the college after participating in Penn College NOW in high school.
Penn College NOW is a nationally accredited dual-enrollment program in which college courses are taught by approved teachers at high schools and career and technology centers across the state. There is no tuition cost to the participating students. Transfer students are well-represented among Penn College’s 100-plus academic majors, accounting for nearly 25 percent of those enrolled.
“We are most grateful for this latest gift from The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation, which once again supplements the Stabler Scholarship Fund Endowment at Penn College,” said President Davie Jane Gilmour. “This generous additional gift enables us to provide up to six more scholarships to students in need so that they may continue their education with us. Such support is crucial to the success of many of our students, who we like to call ‘tomorrow makers,’ because of their impact on the workforce and within their communities after graduation.”
Recipients of scholarships from The Stabler Foundation are asked to sign a debt of conscience, agreeing to pay forward the amount they receive in scholarship funds, when able, following graduation.
The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler Foundation was established in 1966 exclusively for charitable, religious, scientific, literary or educational purposes.
Those interested in contributing to a Penn College scholarship – or establishing one – may send a donation to the Penn College Foundation, One College Avenue, Williamsport, PA 17701; visit the Institutional Advancement Office or call toll-free at 866-GIVE-2-PC (866-448-3272).
