Six Selected for President’s Scholarships at Penn College

Monday, June 5, 2017

Six students will begin their education at Pennsylvania College of Technology this fall as recipients of President’s Scholarships.

High school seniors are invited to apply for the $3,000 annual scholarship if they are enrolling full time at Penn College and have a high school GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Candidates for the President’s Scholarship must submit documentation including high school activities, community service, verification of their GPA and a 350-word essay explaining why they chose to attend Penn College, as well as how they plan to use their education to become leaders in their future careers.

The President’s Scholarship will be credited in equal installments of $1,500 during the Fall 2017 and Spring 2018 semesters at Penn College. The scholarship is renewable – as long as recipients meet eligibility requirements for enrollment, course load and academic performance.

The 2017-18 President’s Scholarship awardees, their hometowns and academic majors are:

Brooke M. Confer, of Howard, physician assistant studies; Patrick A. Daugherty, of Brogue, engineering design technology; Zachary M. King, of Marion Center, welding and fabrication engineering technology; Shawnee M. Mills, of Indian Head, Maryland, plastics and polymer engineering technology; Grace R. Roat, of Watsontown, pre-emergency medical services; and Jacob T. Witmer, of Mechanicsburg, physician assistant studies.

“You are a member of a very select group of new students who have demonstrated the ability to achieve a superior academic record, while simultaneously contributing generously of your time and talents in your high school and community in meaningful ways,” Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour wrote in a notification letter to the President’s Scholarship recipients.

“This scholarship program was designed to recognize extraordinarily talented individuals, like you, who appreciate that learning takes place both inside and outside of the classroom,” Gilmour continued. “We know that the opportunities available to you at Penn College will enable you to continue to learn, grow and develop as a responsible member of society, and we are excited to welcome a student of your caliber.”
