(EDITOR'S NOTE: Boever's exhibition went on as scheduled, but inclement weather forced postponement of the golf tournament to July 17.)
Renowned golf entertainer, trick-shot artist and World Long Drive champion Dan Boever will headline the Penn College Foundation’s 31st Annual Golf Classic on June 19 at the Williamsport Country Club.
Boever, among the most popular performers on the golf exhibition circuit, will perform for guests at the fundraiser event, proceeds from which, combined with accumulated investment income, have created an endowed scholarship fund exceeding $1.1 million.
Since 1990, the fund has generated nearly 600 student scholarship awards totaling approximately $700,000.
Well-known in golfing circles for his quick wit, one-liners, and impressive collection of trick shots and long drives, Boever has performed at more than 1,400 golf shows in the past two decades.
An All-American baseball standout at the University of Nebraska, Boever signed with the Cincinnati Reds organization in 1983, rising through the minor league ranks to play at the AAA level before calling it a career in 1989.
After spending time as a hitting instructor, selling insurance and working as a district sales manager for a national dairy chemical company, Boever entered a long-drive competition in 1996. After qualifying for his first championship, he met long-drive legend Art Sellinger, who became a mentor, ultimately propelling him on a new career path.
Boever is a Re/Max World Long Drive Masters (45-plus) champion, an 18-time World Long Drive finalist, and he has logged three holes-in-one over 330 yards and two par-3 holes-in-one using a driver.
He has appeared on the Golf Channel, CBS, NBC, Oxygen and TLC and has appeared in eight national television commercials with Pinnacle. He has also produced a DVD – “Trick Shots, Long Drives and Laughs” – and traveled on goodwill missions to Iraq and Afghanistan with the Troops First Foundation.
