Scholarship Established in Memory of Joseph E. Logue

Thursday, April 7, 2016

An alumnus of Pennsylvania College of Technology's predecessor institution will be memorialized through an endowed scholarship established by his mother.

The Joseph E. Logue Memorial Scholarship, initiated by Elizabeth Stark Logue, will benefit students who are enrolled full time in the college's four-year manufacturing engineering technology major or the two-year majors of automated manufacturing technology or machine tool technology. Logue, who died in May 2015, was a 1983 graduate of Williamsport Area Community College's machinist general program.

“Joe really enjoyed his college classes and never complained like he did when he was in high school, especially about his homework,” his mother said. “He learned a lot in college because he really enjoyed his trade.”

Joseph E. LogueJoseph Logue served on Penn College's Automated Manufacturing/Machining Advisory Committee from 2003-13.

His obituary noted that he “loved the outdoors, most often on motorized vehicles,” and he was a competitive rider in motocross observed trials and other venues. His father observed that "he never saw a more talented heavy-equipment machine operator,” the notice continued.

“This new scholarship is a wonderful tribute to Joe,” said Debra M. Miller, vice president for institutional advancement. “We are grateful to Elizabeth for establishing this scholarship in memory of her son, and to the entire Logue family for their commitment to Penn College and our students over the years.”

The scholarship does, indeed, add to the college’s long-standing relationship with the Logue family.

Joseph’s father, the late George E. Logue Sr., was an alumnus of Penn College predecessor institution the Williamsport Technical Institute and served on the college’s Board of Directors and Academic Program Advisory Board.

Joseph’s brother, George E. “Herman” Logue, is the current chair of the Penn College Foundation Board of Directors, and his nephew, George III, is a 2010 graduate of the college’s culinary arts and systems major.
