Tuesday, March 18, 2014

A retired administrator and former faculty member who served Pennsylvania College of Technology for nearly four decades has established a scholarship – along with his wife and family – for students in the academic school that he led.

Donald O. Praster served in a variety of roles at Penn College, including dean of industrial and engineering technologies, department head, and welding faculty member. He retired in June 2012.

Donald O. PrasterAfter his retirement, Praster was accorded emeritus status by the Penn College Board of Directors. As a faculty member, he was active with the Penn College Education Association, becoming involved in negotiations for collective bargaining agreements. He also participated in the college’s Internal Governance system.

Preference for the Don and Kim Praster Family Scholarship will be given to students enrolled in the industrial- and engineering-related majors within the School of Industrial, Computing & Engineering Technologies who have been a recipient of a scholarship from the fund in prior years and have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or better.

“Don Praster has played an important role during a significant portion of Penn College’s history, both as a faculty member and an administrator,” said Robb Dietrich, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. “His generosity in establishing this scholarship speaks to his commitment to the students he served prior to his retirement and will continue to support for generations to come.”

“I am fortunate to have had such a rewarding and fulfilling career at such a great institution,” Praster said. “Kim and I are very happy to be able to establish this scholarship.”
