Benefit Walk Raises Money for EMS/Paramedic Scholarship

A recent benefit for the William E. Henry Memorial Scholarship, established early last year by family and friends of a local trailblazer in emergency medical services, brought the fund $500 closer to endowment. The scholarship fund now stands at more than $6,300; once the balance reaches $25,000, it will become a permanent source of financial aid to eligible students in Penn College's emergency medical services associate-degree major or paramedic technician certificate major. The money was collected during a May 18 walk in South Williamsport's Paws Park, an event attended by Bambi A. Hawkins, learning laboratory coordinator for Penn College's paramedic program, and Dayton J. Root, of Liberty, the first recipient of an award from the scholarship fund. Proceeds from the fundraiser, which was detailed in a May 19 article in the Williamsport Sun-Gazette, were delivered to the Institutional Advancement Office this past week by Mark A. Trueman, director of the Penn College paramedic technology program.
