A near-perfect day of weather greeted the 41 golfers in last week's School of Natural Resources Management Scholarship Golf Invitational.
The fairways of White Deer Golf Course were an excellent venue for the July 11 scholarship fundraiser, at which 13 golfers displayed their Wildcat pride as Pennsylvania College of Technology employees.
The top teams were awarded cash and, in a spirit of generosity, donated the prize money back to the scholarship fund.
The perennial powerhouse in the tournament, Team Arby’s of Williamsport – Mike Rae, Matt Haile, Bryan Waltz and Dan Bennett – led the pack.
The lineup for the second-place team of Lewis Lumber was Curtis Wolfholpe, Butch Hill, Brian Frantz and Brian Brousius; rounding out the prize-winning teams was the third-place foursome of Barry Stiger, Tim Hughes, George Girio and Bob Shearer.
Skills prizes were awarded and taking home the prize for the longest drive was Bennett from Team Arby’s.
Closest to the pin prizes were awarded to Jay Alexander from the Wayne Township Landfill on the sixth hole, Mark Sitler from Young Industries scored a double win after he was closest for the day on the eighth and 17th holes, and Hughes took home honors for closest to pin on the 14th.
To date, the golf outing has raised nearly $45,000 for the Natural Resources Management Endowed Scholarship, which has been awarded to eight students since 2005-06.
Students in horticulture, forest technology, diesel technology, onsite power generation and heavy construction equipment technology majors have benefited from the scholarship funds.
