Erdly Memorial Scholarship Fund Established at Penn College

An alumnus has established a scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology to honor the memory of his late parents.

Jeffrey L. Erdly, a 1972 graduate of Penn College predecessor institution Williamsport Area Community College, plans to make an annual award of $1,000 through the Carl and Bonnie Erdly Memorial Scholarship, which honors his father and mother. Carl Erdly died in November 2007; Bonnie Erdly died in 1991.

"While neither of my parents had the opportunity to obtain an advanced education, they raised five children in a home where one's academic performance and potential were always nurtured," Erdly said. "No other investment in my life could ever equal the value received in my education at W.A.C.C."

Student recipients of awards from the Carl and Bonnie Erdly Memorial Scholarship will be chosen from among eligible applicants who are full-time students in any major and have a home residence in Snyder, Columbia, Northumberland or Union counties. The first award from the scholarship fund will be made to a student for the Spring 2008 semester at Penn College.

"We are very grateful to Jeff for establishing this scholarship in memory of his parents," said Barry R. Stiger, vice president for institutional advancement. "In many cases, providing financial support through scholarship awards helps to make the difference for a Penn College student struggling to meet the challenge of paying for his or her education."

Erdly graduated with honors from W.A.C.C.'s mechanical drafting associate-degree major and was the recipient of Penn College's 2004 Distinguished Alumnus Award.

He is the co-founder and president of Masonry Preservation Services Inc., a nationally recognized building-facade-repair contractor headquartered in the Bloomsburg area.

He is active in the American Society for Testing and Materials and was instrumental in the 1997 formation of a committee to develop standards for inspecting building facades.
