Danielle M. Young Scholarship Established at Penn College
Monday, September 24, 2007
A Pennsylvania College of Technology student who lost her battle with cancer earlier this year will be memorialized through a new scholarship fund to benefit nursing students at Penn College.
The Danielle M. Young Memorial Scholarship will generate an annual award of $500 to a student enrolled full time in Penn College's associate- or bachelor-degree nursing majors.
Young died June 24 at the age of 27. One month earlier, Penn College President Davie Jane Gilmour presented Young with her associate degree in nursing during a special ceremony attended by nursing faculty and staff and Young's family and friends.
After her death, Young's family asked that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Penn College to establish the scholarship fund. Gifts to the Danielle M. Young Memorial Scholarship can be made by mail to the Penn College Institutional Advancement Office, One College Avenue, Williamsport, PA 17701-5799; or online .
"Danielle loved Penn College, and the college was very good to her," said Susan K. Young, Danielle's mother. "It is our hope that this scholarship will benefit a worthy student pursuing a nursing career."
The first award from the Danielle M. Young Memorial Scholarship will be made to a student for the Spring 2008 semester. Eligible students may file applications online by Dec. 1 . A printable application is also available at that Web site.
