Academic Incentive Endowed Scholarship Fund Established

Tuesday, August 7, 2007

An anonymous donor has established a new scholarship fund at Pennsylvania College of Technology that will cover a significant portion of the tuition bill for an incoming freshman student.

Beginning with the 2008-09 academic year, the Academic Incentive Scholarship fund will provide one annual award equal to 20 percent of the recipient's in-state tuition and fees. The Academic Incentive Scholarship was established recently as an endowed (permanent) fund, thanks to a gift of $49,000 from the unnamed donor.

Penn College charges tuition and fees on a per-credit basis; for the upcoming (2007-08) academic year, a full-time, in-state student taking an average of 15 credits per semester will pay approximately $11,250 in tuition and fees. Based on that rate, the scholarship award would be approximately $2,250.

Preference for the Academic Incentive Scholarship at Penn College will be given to an incoming freshman, enrolled full time in any major, who has high SAT scores, a superior class ranking in high school and who has participated in community service and high school extra-curricular activities.

"This is a wonderful opportunity for our new students," said Joann Kay, executive director of the Penn College Foundation. "We are very appreciative of the individuals who established this scholarship fund."

Students expecting to enroll at Penn College in Fall 2008 can file an application for the Academic Incentive Scholarship between Dec. 1 and Feb. 1 by visiting online .

The application can be submitted online, or a printable version is available to send by mail.
