Friends and co-workers of a heating, ventilation and air conditioning technician in York County who died in 2004 have established a scholarship in his memory at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
The Jedd Paup Memorial Scholarship will provide annual awards to students from York County who are enrolled as full-time students in the heating, ventilation and air conditioning technology associate's degree or plumbing certificate majors at Penn College.
Depending on the number of qualifying applicants, the fund will make either one award of $2,000 or two awards of $1,000 each.
Jedd Paup was a supervisor with Spangler and Boyer Mechanical Contractors in York when he died at the age of 49.
Steve Spangler, secretary of Jedd Paup Memorial Scholarship Fund Inc. and a former co-worker of Paup's, said Paup was well-respected in the trade.
"Everyone called on him for technical support," Spangler said. "He would share his wealth of knowledge, and it didn't matter to Jedd who you worked for. He also mentored many technicians who were just getting started in the HVAC trade. We started this scholarship to keep his spirit alive."
Spangler noted that Paup's second passion was golf, and said an annual golf invitational in York County will raise funds for the scholarship. Spangler said anyone interested in getting involved with Jedd Paup Memorial Scholarship Fund Inc., can write to JPMSF Inc., 5175 Commerce Drive, York, PA, 17408-9511, or call (717) 792-8854.
Penn College students interested in applying for an award from the Jedd Paup Memorial Scholarship may file their applications online after Dec. 1.
