Thanks to the recent Student Government Association Auction, three Penn College students have received Student Leader Legacy Scholarships.
The annual auction raised approximately $3,500, and three students were awarded $1,200 each: Elvis A. Garcia, a heating, ventilation & air conditioning engineering technology student from North Plainfield, New Jersey; Kellor A. Schooley, of Turbotville, enrolled in business administration; and Jashonda S. Scott, a human services & restorative justice student from Williamsport. The three honorees received their scholarships at the annual Student Leadership & Involvement Awards.
Over 70 supporters placed online bids (in a "silent auction" format) or donated directly to the Student Leader Legacy Scholarship, an endowed scholarship fund.
Of the 25 items donated to the SGA Auction, the top item (with a winning bid of $430) was the Hershey Lovers’ Basket, featuring sweet treats and a $500 gift card to any Hershey property.
The Student Leader Legacy Scholarship was established by SGA in 2007 to encourage and reward student leaders by easing their tuition costs. The annual auction is SGA’s signature event to raise funds for the scholarship. SGA’s goal is to distribute four scholarship awards next year.
SGA represents students in all degree programs and the special interest areas. SGA represents students’ voices to Penn College administration, faculty and staff. The association collaborates with administration to support and fund social and academic activities sponsored by Penn College student organizations. SGA provides a venue for communication and is committed to the benefit of students. Representatives encourage students to get involved by attending meetings, bringing up issues and topics, and participating in discussions.
Students can take advantage of speaking with representatives, participating in events, serving on committees or becoming a senator to gain leadership skills, becoming acquainted with administration, and working with fellow students to create a better Penn College experience. Officers are elected to SGA each year for an academic year term.
