College celebrates another 'best-ever' philanthropic year

Despite a year of continuing challenges, donors to Pennsylvania College of Technology were honored Monday evening for unwavering support that ignited a record-setting year for institutional fundraising.
The combined contributions of steadfast alumni, corporate partners, friends, retirees and colleagues – a milestone $8.3 million during fiscal 2021 – were recognized during an annual ceremony alongside the Penn College Donor Wall, which pays permanent tribute to those whose contributions of gifts, pledges, donations and entrustments of equipment and technology, and estate commitments significantly empower students.
“From hospital wings to airplane wings, our applied technology education develops skilled, committed, thoughtful and active global citizens,” the president told those assembled in the Student & Administrative Services Center. “Thanks to you, Penn College students pursue their passions and hone the skills needed to transform tomorrow.
"You went above and beyond to ensure that our world would be filled with innovative thinkers and motivated leaders with essential skills to create the world we want to live in. Scholarships were created, facilities dedicated, academics expanded and athletic champions developed."
Among campus developments enabled by such generous giving (and cited by the president) are the state-of-the-art welding lab, the Larry A. Ward Machining Technologies Center, the Fish Real Estate Leadership Challenge Course, The Klingerman Family Athletics Suite, and donation of a CL-600 Challenger jet and industry-leading software.
Looking across a roomful of people who care about Penn College and its students – a group that included one of her former dental hygiene students, as well as colleagues and "friends, old and new" – Gilmour said she was humbled and touched by donors' extraordinary commitment to the college's mission.
"This is my final Donor Wall Recognition Reception, and I'm feeling a mix of emotions: pride, joy and great respect for your gifts," said the president, who is retiring in June. "I will be forever grateful."
