The Concrete Science Technology program prepares students with skills necessary to excel in the production and analytical evaluation of concrete and the specified applications, aggregate selection, and admixture techniques and products in the concrete industry. Emphasis is additionally placed on specialized properties of concrete, building codes, estimating, and troubleshooting of prior installations.

Career Opportunities
Graduates will benefit from a wide variety of career paths ranging from concrete quality control specialist, highway inspector, research and development technician, batch plant production manager/supervisor, ready mix plant manager, engineering technician, aggregate production and supply manager, admixture technician, concrete supply sales, decorative concrete specialist, structural engineer, and form and placement specialist. These job classifications differ from those having skill sets in flatwork and finishing and require a stronger knowledge of composition and application.

A graduate of this major should be able to:- practice safe work habits in a professional and responsible manner.
- interpret concrete drawings, identify key symbols specific to concrete, and estimate quantities per plan.
- establish parameters and set elevations for concrete formwork according to required specifications.
- identify building codes specific to both commercial and residential concrete including American Concrete Institute (ACI) testing for air, temperature, and slump.
- perform a standard evaluation and provide recommendations for concrete strengths, reinforcement, and thickness per specific application.
- design concrete mixes based on application and purpose.
- successfully obtain professional industry certifications.
- analyze applications and procedures for repair or replacement of defective concrete work.
- perform accurate analysis on aggregates used in concrete for specific gravity, moisture, and cleanliness.
- identify significant historical events and their effect on the concrete industry.
