WHAT EXCITES YOU ABOUT THE INDUSTRY YOU SERVE?

Being a well-established leader in the construction industry, Whiting-Turner has consistently expanded to new markets and industries in our over 110+ years of business. As we continue to grow as a company, and geographically, we are committed to delivering high value with a foundation of customer delight.

WHAT DO YOU APPRECIATE MOST ABOUT YOUR COMPANY'S CULTURE/MISSION?

As large company with more than 60 regional offices and over 5,000 employees, the company’s culture boasts a decentralized, small company feel with the backing of a national leader in the industry. Our mission focuses on our dedication to integrity, excellence, experience, and leadership, as well as a commitment to safety and delivering projects that exceed the expectations of our customers.

HOW DID YOUR COMPANY FIRST CONNECT WITH PENN COLLEGE?

For more than two decades, Whiting-Turner alumni have been the core of our connection to the college. We hire Penn College graduates every year for internships and full-time opportunities. In that time, we have found other ways to engage with the college, faculty and students through board participation, student organizations, teaching opportunities, scholarships, social events and sponsorships.

WHY DO YOU BELIEVE PENN COLLEGE IS A SOUND INVESTMENT? WHAT HAS BEEN YOUR RETURN?

A company as large as Whiting-Turner recruits from schools and universities across the country. Penn College students and graduates are unique in their desire to build. The education that they receive, and the experiences made at Penn College allows students and graduates to be impactful on project teams from day one.

WHAT QUALITITES DO YOU VALUE MOST WHEN RECRUITING PENN COLLEGE STUDENTS AND ALUMNI?

Whiting-Turner values the qualities named in our mission, which includes integrity in how a person carries out their responsibilities, the foundation to grow into a leader, the ability to problem solve through learned experiences, and most importantly the desire to build and learn more about construction management through amazing projects.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU SHARE WITH HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS WHO ARE CONSIDERING PENN COLLEGE?

The best advice is to focus on value: understand the decades of commitment Penn College has ingrained in its business model. The school is dedicated to providing an education based on real-world experience, hiring staff from a wide range of industries to bring invaluable firsthand knowledge into labs and classrooms on campus.
