This year's Penn College-United Way Trash-to-Treasure event was a "sparkling success," in more ways than one. The one-day rummage sale, some say the largest in the area, raised over $2,500 for the Lycoming County United Way and more than 600 pounds of food for the American Rescue Workers. All of the unsold items also were donated to the American Rescue Workers.
Students from Penn College's School of Hospitality were featured on WNEP-TV's "Pennsylvania Outdoor Life" series Sunday, May 14. The Outdoor Life crew visited Penn College in April, when they filmed students Lance A. Smith, of Harrisburg, and Christopher R. Grove, of Linden, with Michael J. Ditchfield, instructor of food and hospitality management/culinary arts.
Pennsylvania College of Technology has presented student achievement awards to its May 2006 graduates. The award winners, their hometowns and academic majors are: PRESIDENT'S AWARD, for leadership and service to the college: Nicole Elizabeth Crouse, York, Graphic Design. BOARD OF DIRECTORS' AWARD, for achievement under exceptional conditions: Marnie A.
Pennsylvania College of Technology presented a Distinguished Alumnus Award to D.E. Rightmire and an Alumnus Achievement Award to James A. Asbury during commencement ceremonies Saturday at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport. Rightmire, who divides his time between residences in Lapeer, Mich., and Proctor, received the Distinguished Alumnus Award for 2006 during the morning ceremony.
The Master Teacher Award, the highest level of recognition given to a Pennsylvania College of Technology faculty member, was presented Saturday to Jeffrey B. Weaver, assistant professor of electronics in the School of Industrial and Engineering Technologies at the college. Weaver received the award during commencement ceremonies at the Community Arts Center in Williamsport.
Two local teenagers spent part of a recent morning job-shadowing and touring the dining units on Pennsylvania College of Technology' s main campus in Williamsport as part of Lycoming County EmployAbililty Awareness Day. The college was among dozens of local businesses that offered job-shadowing opportunities.
Students from area high schools came to campus May 12 for The Plastics Experience. During their visit, they attended workshops in the college's plastics and polymer technology laboratories, and took part in a balloon launch.
Ten Pennsylvania College of Technology students scheduled to graduate this calendar year received "Penn College Awards" during a Thursday banquet at Le Jeune Chef Restaurant on the college's main campus in Williamsport. The awards, marking their 10th anniversary, recognize students who have made outstanding contributions to Penn College.
Later this summer, Information Technology Services will begin a major initiative to convert the campus network infrastructure from Novell to Microsoft. This conversion will affect network file storage, network printing and e-mail services. According to Jim Cunningham, chief technology officer, the move will improve the department's ability to respond to the campus' ever-changing IT needs.
