Dr. Vinay Bahl, an associate professor of sociology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, has been invited to serve as a guest scholar at College de France in Paris. Dr. Bahl's yearlong appointment begins Sept. 1. She will be one of just eight educators chosen for the prestigious honor.

Going to college usually means growing up in a hurry. For Mike Stanzione, coach of the Pennsylvania College of Technology baseball team, it means that and more. The 11th-year coach met with 26 players 22 of whom are freshmen for the first time Monday night. They scrimmaged Tuesday and had three days of workouts in preparation for their first game Saturday.

Pennsylvania College of Technology will undertake a national search to fill the newly created position of vice president for student affairs. The College's Board of Directors has approved an administration request to advertise and recruit for the new post, which replaces the position of dean of student affairs.

Lobar Inc. of Dillsburg will be the general contractor for a construction project that will add new student housing adjacent to Pennsylvania College of Technology's College West Apartments. The College's Board of Directors approved bids submitted by Lobar and four other contractors.

"Stories in Paint," an exhibit by Daniel Burns, will be presented Sept. 3-27 at The Gallery at Penn College. The opening will be from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 3, with an artist's talk scheduled at 5:15 p.m. Subsequent viewing hours at the gallery will be Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2 to 6 p.m. or by appointment. In addition, the gallery will hold special hours on Friday, Sept.

Pennsylvania College of Technology presented Student Achievement Awards recently to students graduating in Summer Commencement ceremonies. The students and their awards are: PRESIDENT'S AWARD, for leadership and service to the College: Susan Diane Roberts, Lewisburg, Physician Assistant.

From its humble beginnings on cable access to its status as a public television favorite airing in 40 percent of the nation, Pennsylvania College of Technology's "You're the Chef," has always generated accolades from viewers. Now, the show has earned the ultimate compliment from its peers in the TV industry: an Emmy nomination.

Culinary students in the Catering course offered at Pennsylvania College of Technology will prepare dishes using fresh ingredients provided by the vendors of the Williamsport Outdoor Growers Market in a cooking demonstration to be offered Saturday, Sept. 7. The event will take place from 9 a.m.

Chef Paul Mach, a faculty member at Pennsylvania College of Technology and co-host of the College's award-winning "You're the Chef" cooking series seen nationally on public television, served as a judge recently in the 2002 New York Wine & Food Classic competition in New York City.
