As if the industrious fulfillment of her proud Pennsylvania College of Technology days isn’t a sufficient bequest, Kate M. Ruggiero punctuated her academic performance with a larger-than-life mic drop: impressively taking the lead in repainting a single-engine Cessna 175C airplane donated to the Lumley Aviation Center eight years ago.

Howard Hughes Medical Institute has named Karen L. Avery, instructor of biology at Pennsylvania College of Technology, a BioInteractive Ambassador Academy member. Avery is among 30 high school and undergraduate educators from 22 U.S. states and Canada selected from about 400 applicants.

The insights of a Penn College faculty member are included in a 16-page "Women in STEM" supplement inserted in 250,000 copies of Friday's USA Today being distributed in New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco, Philadelphia, northcentral Florida and Houston.
