The ALL IN Campus Democracy Challenge has recognized Pennsylvania College of Technology for its nonpartisan democratic engagement efforts that fostered high levels of student voter engagement in the 2022 midterm elections and for its commitment to ensuring that nonpartisan democratic engagement is a defining feature of campus life. Penn College earned a Bronze Seal, based on its campus voting rate (20-29%) in the National Study of Learning, Voting and Engagement report from Tufts University.
Members of the Central PA Chamber of Commerce visited Pennsylvania College of Technology on Wednesday for an “Inside Jobs Tour,” one of the chamber’s monthly outings to educate members on area businesses and organizations. In addition to informative campus presentations and tours, the 22 guests enjoyed a lunch catered by Le Jeune Chef Restaurant.
Coming off a record-breaking unbeaten regular season, Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s soccer coach Ian Scheller now has his team’s sights set on the biggest prize: a United East Conference Championship. Seeded second in the 12-team single-elimination tournament after going 7-0-1 in the UE and 14-0-4 overall, Penn College will host Wilson College in a quarterfinal at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
Envisioning their lives after high school, special education students in grades 10-12 attended the annual Transition Conference, hosted recently by Pennsylvania College of Technology and BLaST Intermediate Unit 17. The event attracted more than 340 registrants from 19 area school districts in Bradford, Clinton, Lycoming, Sullivan and Tioga counties.
The seventh annual Soup for the Soul event, benefitting The Cupboard at Penn College, raised over $1,350. Hosted by Dining Services on Oct. 24 in the area outside the Wildcat Express and The Cupboard’s main location in the Bush Campus Center, the fundraiser also featured tours of the food pantry that serves Penn College students facing food insecurity.
With a roster that returns three top-eight regional finishers from last season’s squad and a NCAA Division III national qualifier from two seasons ago, Pennsylvania College of Technology first-year wrestling head coach Dalton Rohrbaugh has plenty of reason for optimism. “Overall, I am extremely excited for this team to compete. I think we will turn heads and show we can compete with the best of the best,” Rohrbaugh said.
True to its name, Penn College's Student Engagement Office rolls out a regular range of activities for the campus community’s enjoyment, education and outreach. Celebrating the upcoming Diwali, the Hindu festival of lights, “Henna and Hot Fudge” offered a fun way to learn about the art of mehndi and enjoy a “make-your-own” dessert. Stirring in some coffee and activism, “Café con Amigos” and “Si, Se Puede” were among the activities honoring Hispanic Heritage Month.
A 5K Glow Walk/Run is set for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 13, on Penn College's campus. Organized by Alpha Chi National Honor Society, the event will start and end at the college’s Field House. On-site and virtual participants are welcome. Registrations are accepted through Nov. 12. The fee is $10 and will support academic excellence by offsetting new inductee fees for the honor society’s national chapter.
Pennsylvania College of Technology men’s soccer team will rely on continued outstanding defensive play and opportunistic scoring on Wednesday when it hosts Keystone College in a United East Conference first-round playoff match. Action gets underway under the lights at 7 p.m. on campus at UPMC Field.
For Penn College students seeking job or internship opportunities, Career Services has scheduled two Pop-Up Employer Information Tables on campus this week: On Monday, Oct. 28, Letterkenny Army Depot is hosting a table in the Hager Lifelong Education Center lobby (outside of KDR) from 10 am to 2 pm. On Wednesday, Oct. 30, Friends in Action is hosting a table in the Carl Building Technologies Center hallway from 10 am to 2 pm.
