“Bringing Nature Back: One Yard at a Time!” is the title of a day-long workshop set for Saturday, March 15, in Pennsylvania College of Technology’s Klump Academic Center Auditorium. Two Penn College employees are among the presenters: Carl J. Bower Jr., assistant professor of horticulture, and Jim W. Green, associate director of financial aid, who is active in the Pennsylvania Native Plant Society and Lycoming Audubon Society.
The event, running 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., is being presented by Penn State Extension Master Gardeners of Lycoming County in partnership with the Responsible Decarbonization Alliance.
The workshop is intended for beginner, novice and experienced gardeners looking to enhance their skills and utilize their yards to support biodiversity. Birders, landscapers, plant nursery owners, horticulturalists, conservationists, permaculturists and watershed stewards will also find the event engaging.
Bower will deliver a talk on “Keystone Native Plants,” and Green’s presentation is titled “Homegrown National Park – Enhancing Nature in Your Yard.”
More information on workshop presentations, presenters and keynote speakers is available at the Penn State Extension site . Preregistration is required, and the fee is $30. Proceeds from the symposium will help fund future horticultural public outreach events organized by the Lycoming County Masters Gardeners.
