Penn College women go to 3-0 on court in UE

During a week when fall semester finals wrapped up, the Pennsylvania College of Technology women’s basketball team was the only one to see action as it stayed unbeaten in United East Conference play.

This week, women’s basketball and wrestling are on the docket.

Women’s Basketball

In a game played on Saturday after being postponed on Friday, the Wildcats downed winless Penn State Berks on the road 64-38 as Gigi Parlante of Williamsport earned a double-double — her fourth in a row and her seventh of the season — with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Penn College outscored its opponent 45-14 in the two middle periods and led in points in the paint 38-18.

Wrestling

Freshman Carter Davis of York was named the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Wrestler of the Week, the conference announced Monday. Carter captured the 165-pound title at the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic with a 5-0 day, including three falls, a decision, and a 12-2 major decision in the final. Davis’ finish helped Penn College to a runner-up finish in a 12-team field.

UEC Presidents’ Cup

Penn College stood third among 17 teams when the UE Presidents’ Cup fall standings were released on Tuesday. St. Mary’s (Md.) College is in the lead with 12.08 points, followed by Cairn University 8.8, Penn College 8.6, Penn State Harrisburg 8.0 and Lancaster Bible College 7.0, rounding out the top five.

The Presidents’ Cup is determined by a scoring system that rewards a school for success during both regular season and postseason competition. Penn College is only .2 of a point behind Cairn as its men’s cross-country team hoisted its second straight conference championship trophy.
