McGinness of Williamsport; Nicole B. Cowperthwait, part-time instructor of nursing; and student Kristy L. Creasy, of Muncy, make an educational visit to Geisinger Life Flight in Danville, with monkeys in hand for Life Flight's pediatric patients.

Students in a pediatric nursing class brought cuddly gifts to a clinical experience last week with a Geisinger Life Flight crew in Danville. Life Flight provides medical air transportation.

Among the students was Kristy L. Creasy, whose now teenage daughter, then 10 years old, founded a local nonprofit called Aly’s Monkey Movement.

Aly’s Monkey Movement distributes plush monkey toys to children experiencing scary or difficult situations – like medical emergencies – to ease their fears. The class furthered the cause, providing monkeys for the Life Flight staff to give to children they encounter.

“The experience was a wonderful learning opportunity and a way to pay it forward,” said nursing instructor Elizabeth A. Legarski. “The Life Flight crew was gracious and provided some insight to their nursing role in the field, both with ground transport and the helicopter.”

The students are pursuing associate degrees in nursing.
