Grant M. Berry Jr., who retired from Pennsylvania College of Technology as dean of grants and contracts in 2001, died Oct. 6 at the age of 81.

During his 32 years of service, Berry played a significant role in securing federal, state and local funding to support a multitude of projects, including the construction of the Breuder Advanced Technology & Health Sciences Center, the Community Arts Center and the college’s main entrance. Other key developments during his tenure were the creation of the Weatherization Training Center (now known as the Clean Energy Center), the Plastics Manufacturing Center (now called the Plastics Innovation & Resource Center), and the college’s North Campus (now operating as Penn College at Wellsboro). Berry established the College Foundation in 1981 and served as executive director in its inaugural year. Upon his retirement, a news article detailed his contributions.

Berry joined the college’s predecessor institution, Williamsport Area Community College, in 1969 as a counselor, and he subsequently served as director of financial aid, director of resource development, dean of development and vice president for development.
