The community is invited to attend the first “Lunch & Learn” of the 2024-25 academic year, featuring Kerry Magro, an award-winning autistic professional speaker, best-selling author and autism consultant to HBO’s “Mrs. Fletcher” and the latest season of Netflix’s Emmy award-winning series, “Love on the Spectrum U.S.”
Magro will speak at the Lunch & Learn event, set for 4 to 5 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 17, at the James V. Brown Library’s Lowry Room (on the third floor of the Welch Family Wing). The gathering is free, but registration is required due to limited seating. Reservations can be made on the library event site. Food will be available.
Magro is CEO and president of KFM Making a Difference, a nonprofit organization that hosts inclusion events and has provided more than 150 scholarships for autistic college students. He is the author of five books, including his latest, “Supporting Your Autism Journey,” released earlier this year on World Autism Awareness Day.
Magro is appearing at the Oct. 17 Lunch & Learn in conjunction with his keynote address at the Transition Conference, set for Oct. 18, at Pennsylvania College of Technology. That conference, a collaborative effort of Penn College’s Disability & Access Resources office and BLaST Intermediate Unit 17, is for area special education high school students in grades 10-12, as well as parents, guardians and support staff.
The upcoming Lunch & Learn is supported by a grant from the First Focus initiative of the First Community Foundation Partnership of Pennsylvania. The event is facilitated by Penn College employee Nate Woods Jr., special assistant to the president for inclusion transformation, who has coordinated numerous Lunch & Learns on the college campus and in the community.
